6 Spectacular Cherry Blossom Illuminations In Tokyo That you Must Visit



Cherry blossoms in Japan, are expected to start blooming and show their beauty at the end of March. Hanami is one of the most awaited events, where many people picnic during the day in the park surrounded by flowers, but the opportunity to enjoy these pink flowers at night is also not to be missed.

Many places offer special illuminations and light displays as the cherry trees bloom. According to Timeout, here are some of the best places in Tokyo to see the spectacular illumination of cherry blossoms at night.

Shibuya Sakuragaoka Sakura Matsuri

The trees that line Sakuragaoka Street right outside Shibuya Station are usually lit up in various shades of pink during winter to look like cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Now, the trees are lit up with real cherry blossoms blooming among the pink lights. This beautiful view can be seen from March 14 to April 5 between 17:00 and 23:00 for free.

Kioi Spring at Tokyo Garden Terrace

This green oasis amidst Tokyo's concrete jungle features cherry blossom trees in full bloom along the Benkei Moat. From 17.00 to 23.00 between March 18 and April 17 you can enjoy the bright pink flowers, with the colors reflecting beautifully from the water below.

If you're lucky, you may even see trees illuminated with a rainbow of colors that occur randomly every day for just one minute at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., or 9 p.m. Tokyo Garden Terrace is open to the public and free of charge, so there's no harm in strolling around the trees after work or on the weekends.

Yomiuri Land Jewellumination

If you want to find Tokyo's most beautiful light illumination, this place can be one of your choices. Yomiuri Land's annual winter light show will mesmerize you with millions of colorful LEDs installed throughout the sprawling theme park, producing sparkling lights.

From March 19 to April 3, the park will celebrate spring with a line of cherry trees along the 180-meter-long path illuminated in pink. There are around 1,000 cherry trees in total in this park, to see them all you have to do is buy a one-day ticket (¥5,800, adv 5,400) or an afternoon ticket (¥2,900, adv 2,600) to see the Yozakura Jewellumination.

Sagamiko Pleasure Forest Yozakura llumillion

The Sagamiko Pleasure Forest amusement park in Kanagawa prefecture is famous for its incredible illumination during winter, with six million LED lights spanning the entire park.

In spring, the park hosts one of the largest cherry blossom festivals in the Kanto region, with 2,500 cherry trees in full bloom. From March 19 to April 17, the park is decorated with pink, gold, and blue neon lights illuminating the cherry blossom trees. The entrance fee to the park is 800 yen for adults, 500 yen for children.

Sakura Lighter Up at Sankeien

Sankeien in Yokohama is a traditional Japanese garden that houses an impressive three-story pagoda from Kyoto. During spring, 250 cherry trees come into bloom, and visitors from March 25 to April 5 can watch the evening light festival from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. To see the lit up cherry blossoms, you have to pay an entrance ticket of 700 yen and children 200 yen.

Naked Sakura Pilgrimage

During spring, Kanda Myojin shrine offers beautiful cherry blossom viewing during the day, but the shrine is also collaborating with digital art collective Naked Inc this year, to host a stunning lighting event at night.

The cherry trees are lit up with colorful lights with pink petals projected on the ground, some of the cherry blossoms can change shape and color when they are near them. The event is free and runs from 6pm to 8:30pm daily from 26 March to 10 April.
